Mr. Marvin Kalchman brings over 30 years of progressive experience as a senior HR/LR practitioner to the position of Senior Consultant with Canadian Professional Management Services.

A seasoned labour and employee relations practitioner, Marvin is known for his pragmatic, tactical as well as strategic approach to collective bargaining, grievance/dispute resolution and developing positive relations with each of the many unions and business agents that he has worked with using a collaborative style during his representation of management. A true HR generalist, Marvin’s diverse experience covers the spectrum of human resources consulting by providing effective counsel and direction in both unionized and non-union labour environments to the leadership and executive teams. Marvin has experience in turning around adversarial union-management relationships and accomplishing operational priorities through a positive change management process.

Known for his ability to help focus team effectiveness, synthesize root-cause and bring about workplace accountability through the management group by organizational development, Marvin enables workplace leaders to broaden their scope of managerial competencies. In addition to labour relations, he has handled a wide range of HR matters such as recruitment, retention, employee engagement and recognition, leadership development, wellness initiatives, performance management, and has developed a high level of competency in workplace investigations and dispute resolution processes through both formal training and “hands-on” experience.

Marvin has had a complimentary work history of consulting and corporate roles in a diverse cross section of manufacturing, distribution, and health care service sector organizations in both Canada and the United States. He has provided HR and LR services to a wide range of organizations, small and large in his corporate capacity and as a management human resources consultant. Marvin’s portfolio of corporately held positions include organizations such as: Union Gas, Canada Metal, Nabisco, General Mills, Quebecor, Transcontinental Printing, Alcan Packaging, McKesson Canada, Revera Inc., and Specialty Care Inc. in addition to a diverse client group through his previous consulting practice with ProSource Management Consultants Inc.

Marvin’s managerial and executive HR/LR experience covers a breadth of increasing responsibility including that of Vice President Human Resources and Labour Relations. In addition to his corporate roles Marvin taught Labour Relations at York University and volunteered his services for many years on the Board of Directors of the Peel Chapter of the Human Resources Professional Association. Marvin has developed and presented many workshops over the years on a wide range of topics in human resources, labour relations, and leadership.

Academically, Marvin holds a B.BA and M.HRM degree from York University and has completed his formal mediation and arbitration training and awarded the Q. Med and Q. Arb designations. In addition, Marvin is a provincially licensed Private Investigator, and specializes in workplace investigations. Marvin has been a Certified Human Resource Professional (CHRP) and member since 1990 and is a member of the Alternative Dispute Resolution Institute of Ontario (ADRIO).
