Axel is a dynamic, sought after executive who is well versed in strategic leadership and operational management in both the public and private sectors. Axel is nationally recognized as a progressive public safety executive and educator.

As the Director of the Police Academy at the Justice Institute of BC, Axel was responsible for training municipal police recruits and providing continuing education to serving police officers as well as developing private security and regulatory training. He served on national and international high level committees on organized crime, national security, strategic human resource management and police education.

As a member of the Vancouver Police Department, Axel led teams in several areas as a, supervisor, manager and executive officer. Working in such areas as the Integrated Intelligence Unit, the Air India Task Force, Patrol, Planning and Research, Gang Crime Unit, Youth Services Unit, Sexual Offence Squad and Criminal Intelligence Section allowed Axel to demonstrate his leadership and team building skills. Axel served as a member of the Negotiating Squad within the Emergency Response Team for over 15 years and was one of four senior Incident Commanders for that team. Axel led the Vancouver Police Department Strategic Plan 2004-2008 process and was a member of the Strategic Initiative Group with the City of Vancouver.

As a result of his meritorious service, Axel was invested as a Member of the Order of Merit for the Police Forces, the highest award for Canadian police officers.

Axel is a lifelong learner receiving a Master of Arts degree from Royal Roads University with a focus on leadership and strategic planning. He is also a graduate of the Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government’s Senior Executive Program on National and International Security. As well, he participated in Oxford University’s Roundtable “Exploring the Nature of Terrorism: A Religious and Cultural Dilemma.” A skilled facilitator and educator, Axel has been adjunct post-graduate faculty with Royal Roads University in the School of Leadership.
