Dr. Don Trider joined CPMS in 1999 upon his retirement from the Halifax Regional School Board as Superintendent. His career spans over 30 years and includes many high profile roles and responsibilities in both the private and public sectors. Don's experiences merging public sector organizations, developing strategic alliances with the private sector, and creating positive race relations are a valuable resource to any field.
Don's most recent activity includes program development responsibilities for our annual international conferences for police and peace officer executives. He was also responsible for the development and presentation of leadership programs for the Delta Police Department and the Vancouver Police Department. Don’s policing experience also includes the development of an orientation program for the Police Services Boards of British Columbia. These programs touched upon occupational ethics, communications, managing people, leadership, and organizational change. He was also instrumental in the creation and presentation of the BC Leadership Conference held in October of 2003, which focused on leadership in a time of crisis.
Don’s experience extends to the area of Board governance where he assists organizations develop their bylaws and policy and procedures manuals. He has also assisted organizations with the full range of human resource activity from recruitment to performance appraisal and the creation of employee associations in non-union environments.
In the Atlantic Region, Don has responsibility for the development and presentation of CPMS programs relevant to the needs of that area. His past experience in this regard includes human resource seminars, Atlantic Employers Conferences, and custom programs addressing customer service in both the public and private sectors. From his work teaching Master level courses at Dalhousie and developing and teaching a three-part summer leadership program for the former Nova Scotia Teachers College, Don has been recognized as an outstanding leader and teacher.
With taking many leadership roles, Don is described as an effective problem solver who empowers others through support and guidance. This enabled his senior staff to focus efforts on core values and become more creative in their specific areas of responsibility.
